Archive for May, 2010

This past weekend I found myself going through a pile of unwearable, un-donateable clothes in the laundry room. Pouted about the waste of space, and money. Sighed, stuffed everything into a giant duffel to get some space, and walked away.

Walked past my daughter’s room, got even grumpier after seeing papers that seem to have fallen between her bed and wall. She has had a captains bed since 2001. This sturdy wooden frame has saved me from hunting for shoes. It has survived two moves, countless plops at the end of a school day, nightmares, you name it. The only “but” would be how easily things fall between bed and wall. If she’s reading a book and falls asleep, or tosses her handbag without zipping, I think you can guess what happens.

  • send out alert for missing item
  • search everywhere on floor
  • pull heavy bed with stuffed drawers
  • search for missing item
  • sweep carpet
  • complain about dust bunnies
  • push bed back
  • repeat, each time a library book, lucky pencil or homework assignment goes missing

After forcing myself to walk past my teen’s room, and with “preventive maintenance” in the back of my brain, I sat down to take a last peek at a stack of old magazines and catalogs (yes, spring cleaning for my reading materials too). One of those winter issues caught my attention and made me say “AHA”.

I’m going to create a wall-blocker. The idea is still working itself out. I will be enlisting my daughter’s help, then sharing before/after photos with her feedback.

Yoga Class Schedule

As mentioned before, my dear friend Gigi has been teaching community classes at Starseed Yoga in Montclair, New Jersey. I went to her first class, missed the second class due to training, then today missed because .. well, let’s put it kindly and say I shouldn’t do certain moves today. Gigi, forgive me!

I do hope to make it in for Gigi’s next class (June 9th at 4:00 pm). If you want to meet me there, or take another free community class at the studio, click on Community Class Schedule for details on all the free classes.

I was excited to attend the All Oxi-Active launch event and see magic. So many times, cameras show instant results. Let me state it simply – All Oxi-Active doesn’t need a time delay on magic. Mark, one of the Sun Products scientists, gave us a side-by-side demonstration against another detergent. One dose of All Oxi-Active  against FOUR doses of the yellow bottle. Both containers were shaken for three minutes before Mark pulled out the fabric.

The yellow bottle detergent faded the stain on the left, while All Oxi-Active lifted the stain away from the fabric on the right.

SideBySide

The launch event had a birthday party theme. Kids could go from the grass-covered patio (and paints) to the  balloon artist, cookies, cupcakes, and sticky frosting. Kids were encouraged to relax, enjoy and have fun. Dr. Michele Borba was also there, to tell parents “let your kids have fun and get dirty — let All Oxi-Active take care of getting out the stains” or as I might say to my relatives .. “you can relax while the kids have fun”.

I’ve had time to reflect on my experience at the launch party, and decided that All Oxi-Active is a kid’s best friend. Well, maybe a parent’s most reliable friend. Dogs knock kids in the grass, grandparents say “let’s go clean up that shirt before Mom or Dad notices”, All Oxi-Active gets the stain out on the first try, even if someone (ahem, embarrassed child) pushes something to the bottom of the hamper.

AllParty

  • CL1 – I got free All Oxi-Active, plus a goodie bag at the party with fingerpaints, a football and a white beach towel. Plus, lots of delicious snacks at the party.

Last week I missed Wordless Wednesday because I was totally immersed in training for my census job. Today is “cinco de mayo” and a good time to look back on things that made me smile within these past seven days.

Among the highlights:

  • Saturday lunch after a movie outing
  • Sunday lunch for me – yummy steamed lobster
  • Sunday dinner as prepared by my teen
  • Monday’s cocktail party at New York’s Affinia 50 hotel to benefit www.helpamotherout.org (BabyBasicsNYC)
  • YouCake creation for the fundraiser
  • Yankees-themed “magic 8 ball”
  • Tuesday visit to my daughter’s school and seeing her art on display.

Enough with the words – enjoy the pictures
